New Benchmark for Sustainable Construction in Amsterdam
A city to be explored
Amsterdam is a city of architectural wonders, and for people working in the real estate business, exploring it is a must. From the narrow, iconic houses lining the canals—many of which date back to the 17th century—to the contemporary office buildings dotting the skyline, Amsterdam offers an impressive collection of structures and shapes to discover.
If you’re looking for a city with a unique blend of history, art, and culture, Amsterdam should be at the top of your list. And with the recent addition of District West, there’s never been a better time to explore the amazing city through our renderings.
Drawing inspiration
In our latest project, we spotlighted WOMO Architect’s innovative design by providing a whole package of architectural renderings in just one week. We were asked to create some playful images for their recent office development, but our client’s ambitious vision was inspiring to such a degree that instead of our usual workflow where we present two sketches for each image ordered, we delivered 23 different compositions.
We can assume how tough the decision could have been for Imola Bérczi and her team to select only six to be finalized. On the other hand, if we were in the client’s shoes, we’d be delighted to have these many options to choose from.
Green-inspired spaces
The District West masterplan creates a strong campus identity to shake up a previously industrial location and lead the charge toward a new era of workplace design.
It is designed with keeping flexibility in mind, using bridges to connect offices and laboratories in one cohesive complex that allows easy navigation and interaction between different buildings, promoting a sense of community and collaboration among employees. Each building embodies a unique common interior amenity, allowing for green-inspired and healthy spaces to meet, collaborate and create.
Its location on the original Telegraaf press site and walking distance from the Sloterdijk Station, expands public space and also enriches the local community by restoring and reusing three historic buildings on the site.
The 10,000 sqm public plaza, united by the historic printing press pavilion, will become one of the largest outdoor gathering and event spaces in the Sloterdijk area—roughly similar in size to the Dam Square Plaza.
Absolute freedom
Our team had absolute freedom during the sketch phase, which allowed us to create and conceptualize in solitude on how the design and these timber structures could be perfectly represented through architectural visualizations.
We created a colorful, artful, wide selection of renderings, that are perfect for social media and that provide content for a well-detailed, multi-page presentation for investors and city representatives.
These images were not just aesthetically pleasing and not solely on design; they served a strategic purpose by focusing more on the opportunities for a modern-day working place and the environment itself, with the look and feel of being alternative and non-corporate.
Finding inspirations
We enjoyed the project so much that we created tons of images, and spent extra time on looking for inspirations and stock photos that we could insert to make our package to be as realistic as possible.
During this process, we were able to create more content within a shorter production time. This benefited both parties: on the client’s side, it meant that we delivered a large package of visual content in just a few days, while for our team, it meant that we could experiment with lighting and textures while exploring various ideas.
As we are equipped to handle multiple projects simultaneously, we are not just creative but fast and efficient as well. This rare mix of capabilities is essential when working on architectural competitions with tight schedules.
Circular economy
In conclusion, the District West Masterplan was not just about representing beautiful buildings, but also about setting new standards and embracing the circular economy of wood, an innovative concept that promotes sustainability and resource efficiency in the construction phase.
Minimizing environmental impact by using wood as a primary building material that is not only renewable but also has a low carbon footprint was an essential element of this project, and we, as an architectural visualization company, are glad to be a part of it.
