Snøhetta Proposed a Seven-Storey ‘Timber Box’ to Win Munich Contest

Snøhetta’s remarkable proposal for Schützenstraße, a mixed-use development in Munich was awarded third place in recent weeks. The plan was published just days after we presented their award-winning design for Viva Virgolo, a prestigious new Museum Quarter in Northern Italy.

Our team was beyond excited to work on this beautiful design that had the potential to create a strong public-social dimension that reinforces the character, richness and complexity of the Bavarian city.

Everything under one roof

The new building for Signa Real Estate Germany, is situated at a prime location between Munich’s main train station and its iconic Stachus Square, providing a remarkable opportunity to create a brand new seven-storey ‘timber box’ with a variety of functions—from traditional office interiors to co-working spaces, retail shops, restaurants and cultural events.

Some areas of the roof garden are private spaces connected to offices but the main part is open to the public to enjoy the view to the Frauenkirche Cathedral and to the alps in the South.

The process in a nutshell

Together with Snøhetta, we created fifteen sketches in the first round and eight final renderings that uniquely present the retail area on the ground floor, all the interior spaces and how they connect to the pedestrian zone and to the green courtyards creating one continuous outdoor and indoor space.

This approach gave us and the client the perfect stage to visually show off the development in a very unique way.
